Statements on the undoing of the Special, Kusari-Lila: The next steps should be neither urgent nor emotional

The Minister of Industry, Entrepreneurship and Trade, Mimoza Kusari-Lila, has spoken about the reports in the media about the initiative of several deputies of the Democratic Party of Kosovo to collect signatures for a session related to the undoing of the Specialized Chambers of Kosovo in The Hague.
Kusari-Lila said that she does not want to judge the initiative, but emphasized that, according to her, there is an inconsistency in the actions of the PDK, since this party contested the constitution of the Assembly and the formation of the Government in the Constitutional Court.
“Now I am not to judge this initiative, however there is a match of actions and logic from the Democratic Party for the reason that they have already disputed in the Constitutional Court both the session and the formation of the Government. On the other hand, it is very important to have institutions and to have complete decision-making”, she said.
Speaking about yesterday’s decision of the court in The Hague and the sentences against the leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army, Kusari-Lila said that the decision has caused shock and great burden, stressing that the next steps should be well thought out and not hasty or emotional.
“As long as what happened yesterday shocked us all in the most negative sense of the word, in how heavy we felt with the weight of the punishment that was given to the leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army. The next steps should not be hasty or emotional, they should be well thought out and all the maximum efforts should be made both in the state institutional aspect and in the party aspect of everyone to ensure what is the safest path towards the full release of the four leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army”, she further told Ekonomia Online.
Kusari-Lila stated that the decision is of the first instance and that there is a possibility of appeal.
She called for the appeal mechanism to be used and for immediate mobilization.
“It is lucky in the disaster that it is the punishment in the first degree and there is the appeal, the appeal mechanism that should be mobilized immediately”, she said.
The minister also said that the issue should not be seen only from a legal point of view, but also as a political and state issue. For this reason, according to her, there should be coordination and unity in attitudes.
“While in the other discussions, I still said that the issue, in addition to being legal, is also political and state, therefore there should be coordination and unity in positions because this is not a political battle that will be won by someone against someone, this is a battle for the entire Republic of Kosovo”, she said further.
The Special Court has sentenced 4 former leaders of the Kosovo Liberation Army to a total of 81 years in prison.
The former president of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, has been sentenced to 25 years in prison. The court found him responsible for crimes including murder, torture, cruel treatment and illegal detention during the war in Kosovo.
Kadri Veseli was sentenced to 18 years in prison. He was found guilty of war crimes, including illegal or arbitrary detention, cruel treatment, torture and unlawful killing.
Jakup Krasniqi was sentenced to 25 years in prison. The court found him guilty of war crimes, including arbitrary detention, cruel treatment, torture and unlawful killing.
And Rexhep Selimi was sentenced to 13 years in prison. The jury found him guilty of war crimes, including cruel treatment, torture and unlawful killing.
