Gaborone: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik, held a bilateral meeting with President Duma Gideon Boko of the Republic of Botswana, at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Republic in the capital, Gaborone this evening. The meeting was held within the framework of His Majesty’s visit to the Republic of Botswana.
During the meeting, emphasis was placed on the cordial relations binding the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Botswana, and on the importance of strengthening and developing them in a manner that serves the common interests and secures further mutual benefits for the two countries’ peoples.
Thereafter, an expanded official session of talks was held, chaired by His Majesty the Sultan and the President of Botswana. The session explored the existing fields of cooperation between the two countries and the means of enhancing them, particularly in the sectors of renewable energy, mining, investment, logistics, food security and agriculture.
The session was attended, from the Omani side, by HH Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs; Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal al Busaidi, Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court; General Sultan bin Mohammed al Nuamani, Minister of the Royal Office; Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi, Foreign Minister; Dr Hamad bin Said al Aufi, Head of the Private Office; Abdulsalam bin Mohammed al Murshidi, President of Oman Investment Authority; Anwar bin Hilal al Jabri, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion and Ali bin Said al Kathiri, Head of the Sultanate of Oman’s Mission in the Republic of South Africa.
Attending the session on the Botswanan side were Ndaba Nkosinathi Gaolathe, Vice President of the Republic and Minister of Finance; Dr Phenyo Butale, Minister of International Relations; Moeti Caesar Mohwasa, Minister of State President, Defence and Security; Bogolo Joy Kenewendo, Minister of Minerals and Energy; Tiroeaone Ntsima, Minister of Trade and Entrepreneurship; Dr Stephen Modise, Minister of Health; Brigadier Pius Mokgware, Minister of Labour and Home Affairs and Keoagile Atamelang, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure.
His Majesty the Sultan also graciously inscribed the Book of Distinguished Guests, and commemorative gifts were exchanged between His Majesty and the President of Botswana, in manifestation of the depth of bonds of friendship between the two countries.
