The Venezuelan Federation of Teachers (FVM) rejected the statements of the Minister of Education, Héctor Rodríguez, relating to the teacher income and school conditions for the start of the school year.
Through an official statement released this Saturday, the union representation denied that the teaching staff receive an average of 506 dollars per month and criticized that the authorities blame the family environment for the problems of the sector, after denouncing the abandonment of state obligations in terms of infrastructure and salary.
The union maintained that the ministerial statements do not correspond to the operational situation of public educational institutions.
The FVM directive He emphasized that the problems of the education system do not respond to emotional factors of the family nucleus, but to structural deficiencies in schools.
“Venezuelan families do not need recommendations or ministerial sermons on how to listen or provide affection to your children. Every day, the fathers and mothers of Venezuela look into the eyes of their children and face the harsh reality of dismantled schools and an educational system in ruins“said the organization.
Infrastructure and salaries in the sector
Likewise, the teaching representation detailed the deficiencies that affect the development of academic activities and broke down the status of professional income:
“A school year cannot be classified as ‘wonderful’ when the school infrastructure lacks the most basic services: schools without drinking water or adequate sanitation, schools without continuous electrical service or habitable conditions, and absence of a permanent, complete and quality School Feeding Program (PAE),” the text stated.
The FVM clarified that “a bonus is not a salary” and specified that the base remuneration of teachers is “at an equivalent of barely 0.30 to 1.5 dollars per month”.
The union recalled that the Ministry of Education maintains “a estimated debt of 280% in salary increases owed since 2018″ and described the granting of a start-of-class bonus of 12.50 bolivars as “cynicism at its finest.”
