The president of the United States, donald trump, does not rule out meeting with Delcy Rodriguezpresident in charge of Venezuela, with whom she has established agreements after the capture of Nicolás Maduro on January 3.
This Sunday, the Republican president spoke with some journalists about the possibility of meeting with Venezuelan politicians during the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York.
“Will you meet with Delcy Rodríguez to talk about oil?”they asked Trump. When asked, he answered: “Maybe. Well, now we have the oil. We’re getting millions of barrels of oil a month.”
However, he did not give further details of the possible meeting with the Venezuelan official.
The US leader’s statements coincide with the balance of his recent two-day visit to Ireland, where he firmly defended the energy agreement reached with the Venezuelan authorities. During his stay at the golf tournament in Doonbeg, Trump highlighted the economic benefits of the reactivation of the hydrocarbon sector, ensuring that the population of the Caribbean nation “is very happy now” after the entry of large international energy corporations.
The president emphasized that the arrival of these companies, dedicated to the installation of infrastructure and drilling new wells, guarantees million-dollar income for both Venezuela and the United States economy.
In this sense, he has prioritized the consolidation of oil operations and investments over the establishment of deadlines for an electoral calendar, indicating that the democratic process will take place “when they are ready.”
