Algeria’s gas supplies to Spain amounted to 10,313 terawatt-hours during August 2026, making it the second largest supplier to the Spanish market with a share of 34.7% of total imports, according to recent data obtained by the specialized energy platform from Enagaz..
And according to DataAlgerian supplies were distributed between 9.897 terawatt-hours of natural gas and 0.416 terawatt-hours of liquefied gas, while Spain’s total imports of natural and liquefied gas amounted to about 29.75 terawatt-hours during the month, according to the same data.
Algeria acquired an important share of the Spanish gas market, behind the United States, which topped the list of suppliers with a total of 11.57 terawatt-hours of liquefied gas, equivalent to 38.9% of Spain’s total imports during August.
Spain’s gas imports recorded an increase of 13.4% on a monthly basis, compared to 25.65 terawatt-hours in July 2026, while total imports in August 2025 amounted to about 27.75 terawatt-hours.
Liquefied gas represented 60.8% of Spain’s total imports in August, equivalent to 18.08 terawatt-hours, compared to 39.2% for natural gas, with a total of 11.67 terawatt-hours. In July, the share of liquefied gas reached 47.6%, with a total of 12.2 terawatt-hours, compared to 52.4% for natural gas, with a total of 13.45 terawatt-hours.
On an annual basis, Spain’s imports of liquefied gas in August 2025 amounted to about 16.35 terawatt-hours, equivalent to 58.9% of the total, while natural gas imports amounted to 11.4 terawatt-hours, or 41.1%.
Russia ranked third among gas suppliers to Spain during August, with a share of 7.2% and a total of 2.13 terawatt-hours of liquefied gas, followed by Nigeria with a share of 6.4% and a total of 1.19 terawatt-hours, then Norway with a share of 6.2% and a total of 1.86 terawatt-hours of liquefied gas.
Portugal ranked sixth with a share of 3.7%, with a total of 1,115 terawatt-hours of natural gas, while France came seventh with a share of 2% and a total of 0.596 terawatt-hours of natural gas, without recording any shipments of liquefied gas.
Mauritania returned to the list of gas suppliers to Spain after a two-month hiatus, recording a 0.6% share with a total of 0.192 terawatt-hours of liquefied gas.
