St Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew is reportedly recovering after suffering a stroke and receiving medical attention in Martinique. This is according to information reported by Martinique La Première and referenced by CNC3.
The article outlined the reports from Martinique press that Drew was taken to the intensive care unit at the University Hospital of Martinique on Monday night after complaining of a headache and feeling nauseous.
He was reportedly monitored by specialists under the direction of intensive-care physician Professor Dabor Resière. His condition later improved and was described as stable, with the medical team reportedly not anticipating permanent complications.
Drew is also said to have praised the Martinique healthcare professionals who treated him. According to the report, he intends to share his experience with other CARICOM heads of government and discuss healthcare services in Martinique.
The stroke, however, remains unverified by St Kitts and Nevis authorities and Drew’s doctors.
The latest statement from the Cabinet Secretariat said the Prime Minister had travelled overseas for planned medical testing and specialist evaluation. Officials said he was alert, stable and in good spirits, but did not identify the facility.
Drew initially went to Joseph N. France General Hospital in Basseterre on Sunday after experiencing mild discomfort, nausea and a headache. Doctors evaluated him and recommended that he be taken overseas for further specialist monitoring.
The Government has not confirmed Martinique as his treatment location.
