President of the Youlou Pan Movement (YPM), Rodney Small, has proposed that the Sion Hill Euphonium Steel Orchestra’s (SHESO) pan yard located at Sion Hill should become a cultural hub.
Small made the suggestion when he spoke at the 2026 graduation ceremony of the SHESO training programme on Sunday, August 23, at the Sion Hill Village hard court. Small, who was nurtured in the art of playing the steel pan within the Sion Hill outfit, speaking directly to Parliamentary Representative for East Kingstown, Fitzgerald Bramble said: “My friend and minister to your cabinet…I think it’s full time that we look at the Sion Hill Steel Orchestra and this facility, and I’m talking about the entire facility, and we make a proposal to our representative, and we make this institution, this organization, the Centre of the Arts in the East Kingstown community”.
Small, a noted pannist in SVG and abroad added, “I think there is some value in looking at making… this facility the Centre of the Arts where persons can come and benefit from all of the other things”.
Bramble who was in attendance concurred, noting that the facility can go beyond simply being a place where people meet to play the steel pan.
