What should the unplanned profit be used for?

With the support of Schellenberg’s head Dietmar Lampert Residents from Ruggell and Schellenberg presented a petition to reintroduce bus route 32 to the state parliament in Vaduz. 152 signatures support the demand for a direct connection between the two communities.

Together with the local council Eva Maria Nicolussi-Vogt and vice-principal Jonas Grubenmann Lampert presented the petition with 152 signatures to the President of the State Parliament today Manfred Kaufmann.

With the timetable change in December 2025, LIEmobil has discontinued the Ruggell–Schellenberg section after decades of operation. The Ruggell Limsenegg, Schellenberg Loch and Schellenberg Widum stops are affected. In addition to the direct residents of the Loch and Widum roads, the catchment area also includes the residents of the Rütteler, Nolla, Rankhag, Widumweg, Platta and Tüfenacker streets. What was particularly shocking for the petitioners was that those directly affected were not informed in advance.

As an alternative, LIEmobil points to the improved half-hourly service on line 35 between Schellenberg and Bendern as well as the possibility of changing in Gamprin Bühl or Bendern Post. This is not an acceptable solution for the petitioners, as it has made the route to Ruggell much more complicated and time-consuming. People with special needs or physical limitations are effectively excluded from public transport because they have to make the steep walk to the nearest Tannwald stop in all weathers.

    Contradiction to the mobility concept

The petitioners base their request on several legal and planning bases. The Passenger Transport Act (PBG) obliges the state to ensure a basic public transport service and to provide adequate access to all communities. The state structure plan stipulates that public transport access to all municipalities is binding for the authorities. And LIEmobil’s ownership strategy states in Article 3.1 that the transport company must connect the communities with appropriate offers.

The lack of cost-effectiveness, which LIEmobil cites as the reason for the discontinuation, also applies to other connections or sections of the route. From 2026, LIEmobil will receive an annual state contribution of 18.45 million francs. “Due to the high proportion of financing with public money, public service must be the priority for LIEmobil and not economic viability,” says the petition. The cancellation of the connection also runs counter to the goals of the 2030 mobility concept, which the government and state parliament had decided with the declared aim of diverting as many people as possible from private transport to public transport.

Three proposed solutions on the table

Those responsible for the municipality of Schellenberg already had a conversation with the government council on January 13, 2026 Daniel Oehry in which LIEmobil representatives were also involved. 152 signatures were handed over to the ministry. According to the petitioners, however, LIEmobil’s arguments were merely repeated in this conversation. To date there has been no statement from the responsible ministry.

The petitioners presented LIEmobil with various possible solutions in advance. The most obvious option is to reintroduce the connection of line 32, which exists until December 2025. Alternatively, a cross connection Unterland from Mauren via Schellenberg to Ruggell would be conceivable as a continuation of the existing line 35, possibly with a continuation to Salez train station. A third option envisages rerouting line 37 to the Ruggell Post–Schellenberg Post route instead of the Ruggell Post–Bendern Post route, which is already covered elsewhere. In order to reduce operating costs and make crossing on the narrow road in the Loch area easier, the petitioners recommend using a minibus.
