Four people have died and more than 30,500 are displaced due to the intense fighting. rains which, as a result of a trough, have been affecting a large part of the Dominican Republicaccording to official sources.
The Civil defense recovered this Tuesday the body of a three-year-old boy in Puerto Plata (north) who died after being swept away by currents of river water, as well as that of a 32-year-old man who died in similar circumstances in Santo Domingo.
These deaths are added to two others previously reported due to the intense rains, including that of a one year old girl who died early last Wednesday after a wall in his home fell on him when Santo Domingo was under the effects of an intense downpour.
The prolonged rains have affected 6,100 homes, causing the displacement of 30,500 people, according to data offered this Tuesday by the Emergency Operations Center (COE).
More than a million people are without drinking water, while 28 towns are cut off, added the COE reportan organization that keeps 28 of the country’s 32 provinces on alert.
The meteorological authorities warned of the continuation of the precipitation in much of the country during the next few hours, after heavy downpours on Monday, which caused significant flooding in the capital, which is on yellow (intermediate) alert.
