A Mahaut woman has been ordered to pay $37,000 after admitting to offences connected to the seizure of ammunition and firearm accessories at the Woodbridge Bay Port.
Mara Detouche was arrested on August 20 along with another woman from Mahaut following the discovery of 50 rounds of 9mm ammunition and two magazines concealed in a barrel at the port.
Detouche later appeared before the court and pleaded guilty to the charges brought against her.
The court has allowed her to pay the fine by instalments, with payments scheduled to begin next week and the entire amount required to be settled by November 30, 2026. If she fails to comply with the payment arrangement, she could face a prison term of up to nine years.
The second woman who was detained during the police operation is no longer facing charges, with all allegations against her reportedly discontinued.
The case stems from an investigation by the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force into the suspected movement of ammunition and firearm-related items through the Woodbridge Bay Port.
