The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has announced the temporary opening of the Priority Bus Route (PBR) to light motor vehicles on Saturday to help ease traffic during the 24th Edition of the Laventille Emancipation Steelband Street Parade.
The ministry said motorists driving light motor vehicles will be permitted to use both the eastbound and westbound lanes of the PBR between Port-of-Spain and Champ Fleurs from 5 p.m. to 11.59 p.m. on August 8.
The temporary traffic arrangement is intended to assist with traffic management while the annual parade takes place along the Eastern Main Road between Leon Street and McAllister Street in Success Village, Laventille.
The ministry urged motorists using the route to comply with all lawful instructions from police officers and authorised traffic control personnel. Drivers are also being advised to observe all traffic signs and temporary traffic management measures put in place for the event.
Officials further reminded motorists to exercise caution while travelling along the Priority Bus Route, noting that there will be increased pedestrian activity in and around the parade route throughout the evening.
The ministry also appealed to drivers to obey all traffic regulations and remain alert to ensure the safety of pedestrians and other road users.
The temporary opening of the PBR is one of several measures being implemented to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic during the steelband parade, which forms part of this year’s Emancipation celebrations.
The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation thanked the public for its cooperation and apologised for any inconvenience caused by the temporary traffic arrangements.
