The municipality of Kujalleq has to go to court in a case concerning non-payment of A-taxes of over DKK 40 million. The municipality did not pay the citizens’ A-tax corresponding to approximately three months’ payments.
Municipality Kujalleq can expect to explain himself in a case about missing A payments.
The case is confirmed by the municipal manager of the municipality, Randi Vestergaard Evaldsen.
On 21 April 2026, the case for fines in connection with the tax case is scheduled for the Court of Greenland, Randi Vestergaard Evaldsen informs Sermitsiaq.
Among other things, witnesses have been called in the case.
The former mayor, Stine Egede (IA), have previously sorry for the situation.
– On behalf of the finance committee and the municipal board, I would like to apologize for the fact that the taxes were not paid on time, she said, when it became known that the municipality had not paid in 2024.
Citizens feel the economic situation
The lack of payment and mess in the economy has had major financial consequences for the municipality. Citizens must now pay 1 percent more in council tax.
The Finance Committee, with Mayor Malene Vahl Rasmussen at the helm, had originally proposed a tax increase of 2 percent. After the budget negotiations, however, the increase was set at 1 percent.
The municipal director will not comment further.
