National team goalkeeper Melvin Mastell described his participation in the 2026 World Cup in the United States of America, Canada and Mexico as “crazy,” and also admitted that he would never forget what happened with Lionel Messi, the Argentina national team star.
Goalkeeper Mastel told the Swiss newspaper La Côte that his participation in the World Cup with the Greens was a crazy experience, referring to the great atmosphere he experienced despite not playing any match.
Among the moments and memories he experienced with the national team during the international football festival, the Swiss goalkeeper of Lausanne spoke about the moment the star Lionel Messi entered the “Arrowhead” stadium in the American city of Kansas City, to play the match between the Argentine and Algerian teams. The Algerian goalkeeper admitted that he would never forget the noise that occurred while Messi entered the match field, before he later scored a complete hat-trick against his teammate Luca Zidane, in the match in which the Argentine team won 3-0, and Mastel said. Mastel (26 years old) was the third goalkeeper for the national team in the 2026 World Cup, after the first goalkeeper, Luca Zidane, who played 3 matches against Argentina, Jordan, and Switzerland, respectively, while the second goalkeeper, Osama Bin Bout, participated in one match against Austria.
Mastel was called up to the “Greens” for the first time during the training camp last March, and he has played two international friendly matches so far, the first in which he started against Guatemala and did not score any goals, while the second he played as a substitute against Bolivia and did not concede either.
It is noteworthy that the national team participated in the World Cup for the fifth time in its history, and during the 2026 edition, whose competitions ended with Spain winning the title, it was able to reach the round of 32, before being eliminated after that by the Swiss national team.
