The number of deaths from the double earthquake of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 occurred almost a month ago in the northern part of the country It rose to 5,398 this Wednesday, after the authorities added 52 deaths.
The president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, published the balance sheet on his Telegram account in which he points out that the number of injured remains at 16,740.
He added that 17,907 people lost their homes, a number that had remained the same since July 7 and that this Tuesday dropped to 17,265. The senior official did not explain why the figure rose again to 17,907.
At the moment, there are 23,335 people in 107 temporary camps, 213 more than on Tuesday, while 128,324 families have been assisted by the authorities.
In addition, this disaster left some 856 buildings affected and 190 collapsed, according to the official balance, which also registers 1,463 aftershocks -58 more than the previous one- since the double earthquake on June 24.
On Monday, more than 240 families received the first homes delivered by the government to those affected by the earthquakes, in an act led by Delcy Rodríguez with her brother at the Fuerte Tiuna military complex, in Caracas.
The authorities do not offer figures for the missing, but the citizen initiative Desparecidos Terremoto Venezuela, a website where people whose whereabouts are unknown after the earthquakes are reported, registers more than 29,000 who could not be contacted.
