The Minister of Health, Mohamed Siddiq Ait Messaoudane, discussed with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to Algeria, Anna Block Mazoyer, ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between the two countries in a number of priority areas in the health sector, especially traffic safety, prevention of breast cancer, and rare diseases, in addition to training, transfer of expertise, and strengthening the partnership between health and university institutions in the two countries.
According to what the Ministry reported in a statement, during their meeting on Monday evening, July 13, at the Ministry’s headquarters, the two sides discussed ways to develop cooperation in the field of traffic safety, by benefiting from the pioneering Swedish experience in preventing traffic accidents and reducing their health, social, and economic impacts, within the framework of supporting national efforts aimed at enhancing prevention and protecting the health of citizens.
The two parties also discussed prospects for cooperation in the field of breast cancer prevention, with a focus on strengthening awareness and awareness programs, especially within the framework of the “Pink October” campaign, and benefiting from the Swedish experience in this field.
Ait Messaoudane reviewed Algeria’s efforts to enhance neighborhood health, especially by intensifying awareness and sensitization campaigns, and expanding early breast cancer detection programs, by strengthening neighborhood health institutions with mammography machines to bring screening services closer to citizens and improve opportunities for early diagnosis.
The meeting also touched on ways to enhance cooperation in the field of rare diseases, and benefit from the Swedish experience in early diagnosis, caring for patients, and developing treatment paths and specialized training.
The Minister stressed the importance of expanding cooperation between the two countries in the field of training and transfer of expertise, through twinning programs between Algerian medical colleges, hospital and university institutions and their Swedish counterparts, to contribute to developing medical and paramedical competencies and improving the quality of health services.
For her part, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to Algeria affirmed her country’s readiness to continue supporting and developing bilateral cooperation in health fields of common interest, translating the common will of the two countries into concrete cooperation projects that benefit the two health systems.
