Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda and Chairman of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) the Rt. Hon. Gaston Browne has extended heartfelt condolences to the Amir, Government and people of the State of Qatar following the passing of His Highness SheikhHamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Father Emir of the State of Qatar, while also issuing a statement on behalf of the Heads of Government of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) honouring his remarkable legacy of leadership and service.
In a letter addressed to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, Prime Minister Browne conveyed the deepest sympathies of the Government and people of Antigua and Barbuda.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Antigua and Barbuda, and on my own behalf, I extend our deepest condolences to Your Highness, the Royal Family, and the people of the State of Qatar on the passing of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Father Emir,” the Prime Minister wrote.
Prime Minister Browne described the late Father Emir as a distinguished statesman whose visionary leadership and unwavering dedication significantly contributed to the modernization and development of the State of Qatar while advancing regional peace, economic prosperity and international engagement. He also offered prayers for strength and comfort to the Royal Family and the people of Qatar during this period of mourning.
In his capacity as Chairman of the OECS Authority, Prime Minister Browne also issued a statement on behalf of the Heads of Government of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States, recognising the profound impact of the late Father Emir on both Qatar and the international community.
The OECS statement noted that Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani’s visionary leadership transformed Qatar from a small Gulf nation into one of the world’s most influential centres of innovation, diplomacy, education, investment and economic development.
Prime Minister Browne observed that under the Father Emir’s stewardship, Qatar emerged as a respected global partner that championed peaceful dialogue, mediation and humanitarian assistance while investing substantially in education, scientific research and sustainable development.
The OECS Heads also acknowledged the late leader’s enduring commitment to dialogue, development and international cooperation, noting that his leadership inspired many developing states to pursue bold reforms and greater prosperity for their people.
“The OECS recognises the Father Emir’s life as one of remarkable achievement. His belief that vision, strategic planning, investment in human capital and engagement with the global community can redefine a nation’s destiny resonates deeply with our own aspirations for sustainable development, resilience and shared prosperity,” the statement said.
Prime Minister Browne further affirmed the OECS’ solidarity with the leadership and people of Qatar, expressing confidence that the values and vision championed by the Father Emir would continue to guide the nation’s future development.
The Government of Antigua and Barbuda joins the international community in paying tribute to the extraordinary life and legacy of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and extends its sincere condolences to His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Royal Family, the Government and the people of the State of Qatar.
