Although the number of SIK members has increased compared to last year, a study shows that hundreds of members will retire in the near future.
SIK’s members increased by 323 to 5,047 on 30 April compared to the previous year, according to SIK’s main board.
More future retirees
Figures show that 862 of them are expected to retire after eight years.
SIK has registered the members who are ready to retire. This year, 206 members of SIK are registered as pensionable, and in the next two years 251 will be registered as pensionable.
This means that a total of 1,319 members are expected to be ready for retirement within eight years.
Which settlements and cities should be developed?
Based on SIK’s inspection report, the other municipalities are being depopulated because the population in the country is moving to Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq.
Based on Statistics Greenland’s population projection for the country, which was published on 23 April 2026, SIK’s main board estimates that the population decline will not surprisingly also lead to fewer labor resources.
– I repeat that we inevitably have to start planning for the whole country. Which settlements and cities should be developed? asks SIK.
Childish stubbornness
SIK has also noticed that Donald Trump, the president of the United States, compared to his first term as president, has become more stubborn in his efforts to take over Greenland.
– Again, Trump has started childishly stubbornly wanting to take over our country, and this time even more persistently than last time, writes SIK in its report.
It is pointed out that through individuals, including some Greenlanders, the population is led to believe that everything will be solved by an association with the United States.
– It must be said that some individuals oppose our beloved country, and when it is all over, it should be investigated whether they have acted against our country, writes SIK.
SIK’s main board’s report, which still contains several topics, will be presented to the participants at the meeting on Wednesday.
