The victory marks the end of a long presidential search for Fujimori. After being defeated in the elections of 2011, 2016 and 2021the right-wing leader managed to prevail on her fourth attempt and will become the next president of Peru.

During the campaign, Fujimori focused a good part of his speech on the fight against insecurity and promised to apply a policy of “tough on crime”with measures such as strengthening the police forces, the construction of new maximum security prisons and a greater boost to private investment to reactivate the economy.
His victory occurs in a context of strong political instability in Peru, where in recent years several presidents have been removed, resigned or faced legal proceedings. Despite this scenario, the country maintains one of the most stable economies in Latin America, with low inflation and a currency that has maintained its strength.
