Jordanian rescuers in Venezuela pulled a three-year-old child from the rubble after six days of devastating earthquakes last week, Venezuelan officials said, reports The BBC.
The total number of people killed in the earthquakes now stands at 1,943, National Assembly Speaker Jorge Rodriguez said, while the number of injured has almost doubled to 10,571.
Jordanian rescuers pulled Kleeber Moran from the Los Corrales Garden 1 building in La Guaira after he spent six days under the rubble, Venezuela’s Vice President Delsey Rodriguez said in a Telegram post.
Venezuela was hit by two powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale last Wednesday, a minute apart, causing numerous buildings to collapse and burying thousands of people under rubble, authorities and rescue workers said.
A UNICEF shipment with 47 tons of humanitarian aid arrived in Venezuela today, said the organization’s spokesperson Stefan Dijarik, stating that the aid will be intended for children and families affected by the disaster.
