The head of government, Xavier Espot, announced this morning, during the debate political orientationthat the Executive will revise the minimum wage upwards this July to compensate for the increase in cost of living registered during the last quarter.
As he explained spotthe decision responds to the economic impact derived from conflict in Iran and follows the same criterion that was already applied during the energy crisis caused by the Ukraine war. Thus, the Government will advance the review of the minimum wage “without waiting for the beginning of next year” with the aim of alleviate the loss of workers’ purchasing power.
During his speech, spot has defended the salary policy of the Executive and has emphasized that the minimum wage has gone from 1,050 euros per month in 2019 at 1,525.33 current euros, an increase of 45%. According to him, this increase has been “much above the evolution of prices during this same period”.
