The naturalized Macedonian representative Dewayne Stewart and is officially a new Baskonia basketball player, after the Spanish Euroleague confirmed his engagement.
Stewart, who played for Olimpija Ljubljana for the past three seasons, signed a two-year contract and will represent a significant reinforcement for the club from Vitoria, which will also compete in the Euroleague next season.
The officialization of the transfer was delayed until the basketball player received Macedonian citizenship. With that, Baskonia will be able to register him as a player with a European passport, without occupying a place reserved for basketball players from outside Europe.
In the Olympia jersey, Stewart performed on four fronts and played an important role in winning the double crown in Slovenian basketball. In addition to domestic competitions, he also played in the ABA League and the Eurocup, and the transfer to Baskonia will allow him to play in the Euroleague for the first time in his career.
The new Macedonian representative will make his debut in the national team already this week. On July 2 and 5, Macedonia will face Ireland and Luxembourg in the pre-qualifications for the European Championship, and Stewart is expected to be one of the main reinforcements in the lineup.
