“It’s a very difficult decision. I’m in pain. There are tears and it’s not easy to find the right words to really express my feelings.
It may seem crazy to step away from things while being part of the number one team in the world, but I feel like I’ve pushed myself to the absolute limit,” Tirinzoni wrote.
Tirinzoni led the Swiss women’s team to silver at the Milan Games in Cortina, where the Nats lost 5-6 to Sweden in the final. It was Switzerland’s first women’s curling medal in 20 years.
According to Olympedia.org, Tirinzoni became the oldest woman to win a Winter Olympic medal in any sport.
She also led Team Switzerland to a record four consecutive World Cup titles from 2019 to 2023, including a streak of 42 consecutive World Cup victories from 2021 to 2024. In the final of the 2024 World Cup, the Swiss were defeated by Canada (5:7).
“Looking back, I can’t say I enjoyed every minute. That would be untrue. There were tough moments, failures and challenges. Moments that made me cry and make tough decisions. But even in the hardest times of my career, one thing was always clear: I love curling.”
We will remind Japanese figure skater Yuma Kagiyama announcedwhich will not perform in the 2026/27 season. He wants to devote this year to introspection.
