Damascus, June 21 (SANA) The General Establishment for Television and Radio Production has presented the film “Ultraviolet” (Ashia’a Fawq Banafsejiyah), a production aimed at supporting emerging filmmakers and graduates of the Higher Institute of Cinema.
The film is part of the “Victory Grant” initiative, which provides production opportunities for recent graduates to gain practical experience in the film industry. It was produced in cooperation with Apamea Company, under producer Firas al-Jajah.
Written, directed, produced and performed by graduates of the institute, Ultraviolet follows a young man named Louay who, under mounting psychological and family pressures, commits a crime. The film explores the underlying social and emotional factors that shape criminal behavior, while also examining how media coverage can sensationalize human tragedy for attention rather than context.
In remarks on the project, executive director Saleh Mansour praised the initiative by the Ministry of Information and the General Establishment, describing it as an important platform for young talent.
Actor Samer al-Zalam said hands-on experience in production environments helps graduates translate academic training into professional practice.
Actor Murhaf Karrad said the initiative reduces the difficulty graduates often face in finding production support, while actor Baraa Badawi highlighted the collaborative environment on set, which allows for the exchange of artistic ideas among young filmmakers.
