The Authority issued an urgent inspection order for 16 Airbus A380 aircraft in order to prevent a potential flight safety risk. This urgent directive, which is rarely used in the aviation industry, brought questions about the safety of giant two-story passenger planes to the agenda again and coincided with a difficult period when the manufacturer company Airbus was struggling with global production and supply chain problems.
15 OF THE PLANES ARE IN THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES
In line with the published instructions, it is located inside the aircraft wings and ensures that the huge load occurring during flight is distributed evenly to the body. “middle main beam” The critical component called (wing mid-spar) will be subjected to a detailed check.
In the statement made by Airbus, it was confirmed that 15 of the planes included in the investigation belonged to Emirates, based in the United Arab Emirates, and one belonged to the Australian airline Qantas. Additionally, due to the urgency, a mandatory inspection of the five A380 aircraft active in the Emirates fleet was requested immediately before their next scheduled flight.
WAS REMOVED FROM PRODUCTION IN 2021
EASA stated that the current findings do not pose an immediate and general danger to the entire global fleet, so they have not decided to ground (ban) all A380 aircraft at this stage.
Airbus A380, which made its first commercial flight in 2007 and broke new ground in aviation history, was discontinued in 2021 due to airline companies’ new efficiency-oriented market strategies and falling demand.
This structural problem in giant aircraft, which continue to serve as the flagships of airlines, especially on busy long-haul routes, despite the end of production, is closely followed by international civil aviation authorities.
