With this win, the Netherlands have climbed to the top of Group ‘F’. The Dutch drew 2-2 against Japan in the first match. On the other hand, Sweden beat Tunisia 5-1 in their first match.
The Netherlands took control of the match in Houston from the start. Brian Broby led the team with a pair of goals in the first half. The Dutch repeatedly put pressure on Sweden’s defense with fast attacks and perfect finishing.
The Netherlands became more aggressive after the break. Liverpool star Cody Gakpo extended the gap with a brace in the second half. He scored his second goal and the team’s fourth goal in the 54th minute with a great shot.
Gakpo’s goal also made history as the 100th goal of the current World Cup. In just 33 matches, this season has reached the milestone of 100 goals. Not since 1958 have 100 goals been scored so quickly in the World Cup.
After conceding four goals, Sweden responded with a counter-attack goal in the 59th minute. Substitute Anthony Elanga narrowed the gap with a goal.
However, the Netherlands did not stop at the last minute. Crescencio Summerville scored the fifth goal in the 89th minute of the match with a brilliant finish. His goal ensured a big victory for the Dutch with a margin of 5-1.
