At the UN headquarters in New York, the first week of peace building was held following the mandate of the UN Security Council resolutions, which were instigated by Slovenia and Egypt. On Thursday, the UN General Assembly met on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the UN Peacebuilding Commission and the Secretary-General’s dedicated fund. The Peace Building and Peace Support Office (PBPSO) has prepared several events on the topics of youth action, obtaining innovations and cooperation with civil society to achieve this goal.
The modern arbiter of war and peace comes from New York, but it is not the United Nations. Republican President of the United States Donald Trump likes to boast of ending at least eight world conflicts: from those between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Congo and Rwanda, India and Pakistan, Cambodia and Thailand, Egypt and Ethiopia, Serbia and Kosovo to those between Israel and Hamas. In the name of the anti-global doctrine “America First”, by attacking Iran and intervening in Venezuela, he also stirred the wasp’s nest of opposing interests of other superpowers, such as China and Russia.
