Seasoned helicopter pilots of the Slovenian Army and Croatian helicopter emergency medical services shared with us their experiences with unpleasant encounters in the air. Lasers and drones, which parents often buy for their children, are useful tools, but they can become dangerous weapons when misused. Appropriate and safe use of these tools is the responsibility of parents, emphasized Primož Pintar, pilot of the Slovenian Army.
A week after an as yet unknown perpetrator shone a laser straight into the eyes of a Slovenian Army helicopter pilot in the village of Latkova near Žalec during an emergency flight to UKC Maribor, many questions remain open about the incident that threatened the pilot’s vision and the safety of air traffic. During the preparation of this article, we unofficially learned that recently pilots of the Dutch airline KLM and Serbian Airserbia also reported a similar experience when landing at the airport in Brnik to the competent authorities.
