Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says it has seized two vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz and transferred them into Iranian waters, while a third ship was reportedly targeted and left disabled off Iran’s coast.

The developments come just hours after US President Donald Trump extended a temporary ceasefire with Tehran, giving Iranian leaders a limited window to present what he called a “unified proposal” to revive stalled peace talks.
Iranian state media reported that the third vessel was struck by IRGC naval forces and immobilized near the coastline. A maritime security agency had earlier said at least two container ships were hit by gunfire while moving through the strategic waterway.
Greece’s foreign minister confirmed that a Liberian-flagged, Greek-owned cargo ship was among those attacked but said it remains unclear whether it has been formally seized. Athens has since warned Greek-linked vessels to avoid the strait and exercise extreme caution.

The maritime escalation unfolded as Washington signaled it does not intend to prolong the ceasefire indefinitely. Sources familiar with US discussions say the administration wants a diplomatic breakthrough quickly and believes mounting pressure could push Iran back to the negotiating table.
