France records “a record for the month of June”
France recorded the highest national average temperature ever recorded in June on Monday. The nationwide index – an average of day and night temperatures – was 29.2 degrees early on Monday evening, as the weather service France-Météo announced, citing preliminary information. Météo-France told the AFP news agency that it was “a record for the month of June” and replaced the previously measured average monthly high of June 30, 2025.
France has been suffering from a heat wave since last week, and on Monday more than half of the country was affected by the highest heat warning level, red. In many places the thermometer climbed to over 40 degrees. New temperature records were recorded in Rennes, Bordeaux and Angers.
In Carpentras, southern France, two children aged two and four were found dead in their parents’ car on Monday; investigators attributed their deaths to the heat. At the weekend, French authorities had already reported three heat deaths and more than a dozen fatal swimming accidents.
