Egypt turned its deficit with a goal from Levin Surman (15) into a victory thanks to Mostafa Abdel Raouf “Zico” (58) andMohamed Salah (67) and substitute Mahmoud Hassan “Trezeguet” (82), raising its score to 4 points at the top of Group Seven, two points ahead of both Iran and Belgium, which tied 0-0.

After their first participation in 1934, during which they played one match, and two others in 1990 and 2018, the “Pharaohs” finally succeeded in achieving their first World Cup victory during an edition that they began with a 1-1 draw with Belgium.

Since the champion and runner-up of each of the 12 groups qualify for the round of 32, in addition to the eight best third-place teams, Egypt’s chances with its four points seem very high to reserve its ticket.

Salah said after the victory: “In the coming years, we will remember that this was one of the achievements in history.”

The player, who was a major pillar in Liverpool’s English successes in the last decade, continued: “This is a big win. We felt that we were playing on our home turf. Most of the fans were wearing red. We must enjoy today and tomorrow and then focus on the next match (Iran), which will be very difficult.”

New Zealand was close to a second goal had it not been for Schubert’s brilliance in blocking McQuat’s shot (19).
