On Saturday, people marched in Nuuk to create visibility for LGBTQIA+ people.
In high sunshine Nuummiut had turned up in the city center to have rainbow flags painted on their cheeks and to buy T-shirts that said “Pride Is For Everyone”.
And that was precisely the theme for this year’s Pride on Saturday 13 June: “Pride for all”.

Several hundred people were ready to march through the city to create visibility for LGBTQIA+ people in Greenland and their rights.
Mayor of Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq, Avaaraq Olsen (IA), preceded the parade on the podium and said:
– Everyone should be free to love who they love. Everyone should be free to be themselves without fear, shame and without having to hide who they are.
– Diversity makes our community richer. Equality makes it stronger.

– We keep marching
The head of the association Sipineq+, Qillaq Olsen, also spoke:
– We keep showing up. We keep marching. Hopefully one day Pride will no longer be necessary.
Afterwards, those present were sent out through the rainbow and on their way through the streets of Nuuk, where music was played along the way and the atmosphere was high.
