MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine National Police (PNP) will deploy full security measures for the June 28 “White Ribbon Movement” rally at the Edsa People Power Monument, as authorities prepare for a large turnout.
The nationwide rally, organized by religious and civil society groups, is led by the Inter-Religious Leaders Council for National Transformation. It calls for electoral reforms, improved government accountability, and measures against corruption and political dynasties.
Earlier, Bishop Colin Bagaforo said the protest is expected to draw 10,000 participants.

“Our priority is to ensure that the White Ribbon Movement march at the Edsa People Power Monument remains completely peaceful and prevents any form of lawlessness,” PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said Sunday.
The National Capital Region Police Office and other concerned regional units were directed to thoroughly assess security threats around the Edsa People Power Monument, including nearby critical infrastructure.
Nartatez said measures will be taken to reduce inconvenience to commuters and nearby establishments.
“While we respect the public’s right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression, the Philippine National Police will remain completely apolitical and focused solely on maintaining public order and safety,” he added.
All units were instructed to observe a maximum tolerance policy and reinforce human rights-based policing protocols.
Bishop Bagaforo said the rally continues the Trillion Peso March protests held last year and during the 40th anniversary of the Edsa People Power Revolution on Feb. 25. /mcm
