“It is a very serious fact because the Peruvian State had made a commitment. Some may not like it, but it had been a formal commitment”he said after a tribute to the Chavín de Huantar Heroes in Congress.
Along these lines, Rospigliosi warned that failure to comply with said agreement would not only have implications at the international level, but could also generate an internal crisis.
“Failure to comply with this commitment can have very serious consequences for the country and can unleash a very serious government crisis,” he stated.
The head of Parliament also linked this situation with the decision to censure the former president José Jeríwhich he described as an error. The consequences are what “we have now,” he said in clear reference to the government of José María Balcazar.
“It is a consequence of what we had already warned, when Mr. Jerí was absurdly dismissed to bring us what we have now,” he added.
The statements come amid questions about the management of the Executive headed by Balcázar, after learning of the paralysis of the acquisition process of military aircraft, which according to some analysts were going to place Peru at the forefront of military aviation.
On Friday, the United States ambassador to Peru, Bernie Navarroissued a warning to the Peruvian Government by stating that it will use “all available tools if they negotiate in bad faith with the US,” after President Balcázar announced that he prefers to leave the decision to purchase the planes to the next president who is elected in the elections currently underway.
