HSH Prince Albert II, HRH The Princess of Hanover and HRH Princess Alexandra of Hanover recently visited the exhibition, which retraces the extraordinary week of festivities surrounding the marriage of Prince Rainier III and Grace Kelly.
Curated by Thomas Fouilleron and Vincent Vatrican, the exhibition draws on previously unseen archives, iconic photographs and exceptional memorabilia to immerse visitors in the atmosphere of an event that captivated the world. Widely regarded as one of the defining moments in the Principality’s modern history, the royal wedding was broadcast to an estimated 300 million viewers and helped place Monaco firmly on the international stage.
The exhibition goes beyond the ceremonies themselves, exploring the celebrations that unfolded between April 12 and April 19, 1956. Through personal correspondence, historical documents, archive footage and carefully preserved objects, visitors gain a deeper understanding of the organisation and significance of a wedding that continues to resonate across generations.
Among the highlights are rare archival discoveries, period photographs and a faithful replica of Princess Grace’s famous wedding gown, alongside other elegant outfits worn during the celebrations. Together, they offer a vivid portrait of a historic occasion that transformed Monaco’s global image.
Open to the public until September 25, the exhibition provides a unique opportunity to relive one of the most significant and enduring chapters in the Principality’s history.
