The Canadian team signed a resounding 6-0 victory over Qatar this Thursday, June 18 in the vancouver stadiumin a match corresponding to Group B of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The host team dominated the match from the first minutes and found the advantage in the 17th minute through Cyle Larinwho completed one of the many Canadian attacks on the goal defended by Mahmound Abunada.
Canada’s pressure continued and was rewarded again in the 30th minute, when Jonathan David increased the difference with the second goal of the match.
The forward appeared again in added time of the first half to score his double and send the Canadians into the break with a comfortable 3-0 lead.
The situation for Qatar became even more complicated in the 35th minute. After a VAR review, the referee changed a yellow card to a direct red one for Ahmed Homamleaving the Asian team with ten players when much of the game was still missing.
In the second half, Canada maintained absolute control of the ball and continued to generate constant danger. However, the match was marked by an unfortunate action in the 50th minute, when Ismaël Koné suffered a serious injury after a challenge by Assiam Madebo. The Canadian midfielder had to leave the field on a stretcher while being applauded by the fans present.
Despite concern about the injury, Canada did not slow down. Nathan Saliba, who came on to replace Koné, scored the fourth goal in the 64th minute.
Later, Jacob Shaffelburg, recently added to the game, closed the win in the 76th minute with the fifth goal of the night. The sixth goal went to Jonathan David.
The Canadian team accumulated a wide offensive superiority, registering up to 15 corner kicks and forcing the Qatari goalkeeper to intervene on numerous occasions to avoid an even greater difference.
During the final minutes, Qatar tried to get closer to the rival area, but lacked precision and never managed to seriously worry Canadian goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau, who had a quiet day between the three sticks.
With this result, Canada has three important points in Group B and sends a message of strength on its path to the 2026 World Cup.
