Scotland entered the 2026 World Cup in the best form by beating Haiti 1-0, in a Group C match played at the Boston Stadium.
The only goal of the match came in the 28th minute, when John McGinn took advantage of a loose ball in the area, after an incomplete save by goalkeeper Johny Placide, and put the Scottish team ahead.
Haiti, who returned to the final stage of a World Cup after a long absence, responded with intensity and tried to discuss the result until the end, but revealed a lack of effectiveness in the decisive moments. The Caribbean team created dangerous situations, especially in the second half, but faced an organized, determined Scotland team capable of protecting a short lead.
For the Scots, this triumph has historic value: it is the team’s first victory in a World Cup since 1990 and comes as they return to the biggest stage of international football after 28 years.
With these three points, Scotland gains an important advantage in the fight for qualification in Group C, which also includes Brazil and Morocco. Haiti were defeated, but left positive signs due to their competitive attitude and the way they never gave up looking for a draw.
In the next round, Scotland face Morocco, while Haiti will face Brazil, in a demanding test of their ambitions in the competition.
