THE SERIOUS OFFENCES COURT (SOC) is asking that at least two professionals from the Ministry of Health appear in court during the first week in July to give an update on a psychiatric report on 27-year-old mental patient Kesroy Williams.
On Monday, Chief Magistrate Collin John said that he would like to hear from both the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry and from Dr. Alisa Alvis, head of the Ministry of Health’s Mental Health Services.
Williams case gained public attention at the Serious Offences Court (SOC) this year after a report on his competency to stand trial in relation to a gun possession charge, done by Drs. Alvis, Micheal Stowe and Franklyn Joseph of the Mental Health Centre (MHC) was thrown out by Chief Magistrate John.
The trio were responsible for preparing Williams’s report which Dr. Alvis eventually signed off on. All three doctors told the Serious Offences Court, under oath, that they were not trained psychiatrists.
