Facebook suffered a significant global outage on Friday, with users automatically logged out of the platform’s app and website and unable to log back in, alongside disruption to Facebook Messenger.
Users attempting to access the services were met with error messages including “an unexpected error occurred” and “something went wrong.” Reports of outages spanned across the world.
Other Meta platforms were largely unaffected, with Instagram and WhatsApp remaining mostly online, although Instagram’s website also experienced related disruption.
The problems started at around 6.45am Pacific time, or 2.45pm in the UK. Meta does not maintain an official status page for its consumer products, and its business tools status page was not updated to reflect the disruption.
