The Ministry of Health of Ukraine reacted to the publication by the Director of National Intelligence of the USA, Tulsi Gabbard, of data that seem to indicate the long-term funding by the US government of more than 120 “biolaboratories”, including in Ukraine.

Details: As noted by the Ukrainian Ministry, Ukraine consistently fulfills its international obligations under the Convention on the Prohibition of Biological and Toxin Weapons (BTWC) and has never carried out activities related to the development, production or stockpiling of biological weapons.
Cooperation between Ukraine and the USA in the field of biological safety for many years was aimed exclusively at strengthening the capabilities of the public health system, epidemiological surveillance, laboratory diagnostics, biosafety and biosecurity, the department said in a statement.
They clarified that it is an activity that meets international health standards and practices and is exclusively civilian in nature.
Laboratory institutions that participated in relevant programs of international technical assistance are diagnostic, scientific or reference laboratories of the system of public health, veterinary medicine or other scientific institutions.
“In principle, they are not intended and could not be used for any development of biological weapons or conducting research aimed at creating pathogens with increased dangerous properties,” the Ministry of Health emphasized.
The Ministry of Health of Ukraine emphasizes that the presence of pathogen samples in laboratories is not an exceptional or unusual phenomenon. Such samples are used worldwide for diagnosis, epidemiological surveillance, scientific research and response to infectious disease outbreaks.
“Ukraine remains committed to the principles of transparency, international cooperation and strengthening of the global biological safety system. We consider it important to rely on the results of already held international consultations and proven facts, and not on assumptions or interpretations of individual aspects of international technical assistance programs,” the department summarized.
What preceded: Earlier Gabbard “declassified” the datawhich seem to testify to the long-term funding by the US government of more than 120 “biolaboratories”, including in Ukraine.
In her statement, it is stated that among such facilities where research on biological pathogens, particularly dangerous ones, is allegedly conducted, there are also laboratories in Ukraine, which may “be under threat due to the long Russian-Ukrainian war.”
It is noteworthy that on the “map” where “biolaboratories” are supposedly marked, the Gabbard office indicated the wrong location of Kyiv and marked one of the cities as “Cherniv” instead of, probably, Chernivtsi. Also on the “map” it is indicated that Ukraine apparently has “biolaboratories” in the Russian-occupied Crimea and the city of Zakarpattia.
In response to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine rejected these baseless accusations.
