The French rail operator SNCF has put on sale 100,000 tickets, starting at €19, for train journeys over the summer between Tuesday and Thursday.
SNCF has announced a two-day flash sale for cut price tickets for midweek travel over the summer on the high speed TGV Inoui trains.
The tickets cover journeys made on Tuesdays, Wednesday and Thursdays between August 3rd and 31st, inclusive.
Prices range start at €19 for a standard class ticket or €29 for first class.
Journeys covered by the offer include those between Paris and Nice, Montpellier, Nantes, Bordeaux and Avignon.
Taking the train for the summer holidays has become steadily more popular in recent years – so far 8 million tickets have been sold for this summer – with millions of French people now departing for their holidays by rail.
But peak times tend to be clustered over the weekends, leading to the rail operator to introduce the mid-week offer for the month of August.
The flash sale will begin later on Tuesday, June 16th and end on Thursday, June 18th.
It is unlikely to be the last such summer sale, so people planning a trip should keep an eye on the SNCF Connect app for special offers.
Those resident in France can also benefit from the annual ‘holiday ticket’ which offers 25 percent off one journey per year.
