In addition to a proposal for peer classes, Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq’s youth municipal board also submitted three other recommendations with different themes to the mayor at their annual meeting in Nuuk.
Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq’s youth municipal board held its annual meeting in Nuuk from 1 to 5 June.
Twelve young people, chosen from Sermersooq’s four towns Paamiut, Nuuk, Tasiilaq and Ittoqqortoormiit and from four settlements Kulusuk, Kuummiut, Sermiligaaq and Isertoq, participated.
Recommendations
School relations, the role of the youth municipal board and combating bullying were among the main topics, and in addition the messages that the young people themselves wanted to convey were conveyed to Avaaraq Olsen (IA), mayor of Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq.
The recommendations will be presented at the municipal council’s meeting and processed with a view to a decision.
We want partner classes in the primary school, more activities in the summer youth services and more family days.
It is recommended that the youth municipal board hold meetings in East Greenland and Iceland.
It is also desired that new knowledge about bullying is disseminated to pupils, teachers and parents in primary schools, and that there are more places to turn to if there has been bullying, such as supervisors, social workers and psychologists.
Those below also want better sex education and general information about drugs. At the same time, it was emphasized that more attractive opportunities for sports should be created.
Among the wishes are also that the young people in Ittoqqortoormiit get a new place to stay, and that in Tasiilaq there will be better outdoor playgrounds.
– I am looking forward to the discussion of the young people’s recommendations at the meeting and to the further processing of the case. The young people’s recommendations and messages are very important for our municipality. I hope that all citizens in the municipality will help lift the messages, said Avaaraq Olsen according to a news item on the municipality’s website.
