In Odesa, a man who got lost in the catacombs and spent more than 9 hours in underground passages was rescued.
The man got there through the entrance on his own plot, told in the Main Department of the State Emergency Service in the Odesa region.
The incident happened on June 12 in the village of Usatove. A man born in 1979 descended into the catacombs and did not return to the surface for a long time. Rescuers, as well as employees of the Association of Voluntary Firefighters of Ukraine and the Red Cross, were called to help.
Speleologists (experts in the study of natural caves) of the public organization “Search” also helped to find the lost man.
A resident of Odeshchyna spent more than nine hours in the catacombs until he was found and helped to reach the surface.
The rescuers emphasized that the underground passageways pose an increased danger to people’s lives and health.
“An independent visit to underground passageways without proper preparation, equipment and support of specialists can lead to tragic consequences”– warned the State Emergency Service.
Earlier in Odesa found three girls and a boy between the ages of 11 and 15 who got lost while exploring the catacombs.
