The Reque pampasin the region Lambayequehave been proposed as the main stage for the massive mass that would lead the Pope Leo XIV during the visit he would make to Peru next November. This was reported by the regional manager of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Gercetur), Felix Miowho detailed the preparations that are already being carried out to receive the supreme pontiff.
As the official explained, the projected land includes some 3,000 hectares located within the area destined for the future Reque industrial park. In this space, it is planned to install the necessary infrastructure to house approximately 1.5 million faithfula figure that would exceed the attendance recorded during the visit of the Pope Francis to the country in 2018.
“We are already making the preparations, the design and the distribution of what this space will be to host the holy mass of Pope Leo XIV”Mio told the Andina Agency.

The project contemplates a strategic distribution of the land. Around 1,000 hectares They will be destined for the concentration of pilgrims, while another 500 hectares will serve as parking lots and a similar extension will be prepared for camps that will house national and foreign visitors.
Within the facilities, the construction of two heliports is also planned: one for the exclusive use of Pope Leo XIV and another for heads of state, authorities and international delegations that could arrive in the country for the papal visit.
Likewise, the installation of a main altar of approximately 100 meters by 100 meters. The structure will have spaces for a religious choir of 800 members and areas reserved for about 2,000 special guests.
The ceremony could also bring together some of the country’s leading expressions of faith. According to Felix Mioemblematic religious images such as the Cross of Motupe, the Captive Lord of Ayabaca, the Virgin of Chapi of Arequipa, Santa Lucía of Ferreñafe and the Child of the Miracle of Ciudad Eten have requested to participate in the liturgical celebration.

In parallel, the Regional Government of Lambayeque has been executing various works linked to the so-called “Pope’s Route”. Among them stands out the restoration of the Cathedral of Santa María de Chiclayowhere Leo XIV served as monsignor for more than eight years. The intervention is 94% complete and will be delivered on June 19.
Improvement work is also being carried out in the chapel of Santo Toribio de Mogrovejoin Saña, with an investment close to four million soles. The completion of this work is scheduled for August.
Added to these initiatives is the future restoration of the chapel of La Verónica through the works for taxes mechanism.

Regional authorities also reported a positive impact on tourist activity. According to Gercetur data, Lambayeque registered a 24% growth in the arrival of visitors during the current year, reaching approximately 1 million 150 thousand national and foreign tourists.
As part of the preparations for the eventual visit of the pontiff, the Regional Government also carries out road improvement work, urban lighting, public cleaning and recovery of tourist spaces, with the aim of strengthening the infrastructure and the region’s attention capacity in the face of one of the most important religious events in recent years.
