After years of complaints about failures in the drinking water supplythe inhabitants of Luruaco and several towns in the southern Atlantic could be closer to having a continuous service.

The Government of Atlántico officially opened the contracting process for a project valued at $11 billion what are you looking for strengthen the regional aqueduct system and improve the distribution of liquid throughout the area.
The initiative, published on the official state contracting platforms, contemplates both the execution of the works and the technical auditwith the purpose of solve one of the main problems faced by the communities served by this system.
The Secretary of Drinking Water and Basic Sanitation of the Atlantic, Lady Ospina, explained that the project aims to ensure that users can access the service permanently once the new infrastructure comes into operation.

“This is a priority for Governor Eduardo Verano. We are promoting a definitive solution to significantly improve the continuity of servicewith the goal that next year the infrastructure will be fully operational and people will have permanent water every day“said the official.
A solution for overcome system limitations
Currently, the water that supplies Luruaco must travel more than 36 kilometers from the collection point located in the township of Villa Rosa, in the jurisdiction of Repelón.
This long journey generates pressure losses and difficulties in guaranteeing stable supply in all sectors, especially in the most remote and elevated areas of the municipality.

To face this situation, the project contemplates the construction of a new raw water pumping station in Repelón territory, infrastructure that will allow drive greater volumes of water towards the regional system.
In addition, a elevated tank in the upper and expanding area of Luruaco, a work considered key to improving pressure in the distribution networks and ensure that the liquid arrives with greater strength and continuity to homes.
Benefit for header and townships
According to the Government, the works will benefit all inhabitants from the municipal seat of Luruaco and will strengthen service provision in the townships connected to the regional system.

Among the benefited populations are San Juan de Tocagua, Santa Cruz, Pendales and La Puntica, in Luruacoas well as Arroyo Negro and Arroyo de Piedra, in the municipality of Repelón.
The authorities consider that the aqueduct optimization will allow you to respond to population growth already growing demand for drinking water in this area of the department.
Hiring process underway
