THE District Court in Waigani has cleared ousted Kandep MP Don Polye of all three fraud and corruption charges after finding insufficient evidence.
Polye was arrested and charged by the Independent Commission Against Corruption (Icac) for allegedly attempting to pervert the course of justice, conspire to defraud and official corruption of more than K1.7million belonging to PNG Sports Foundation.
Polye, the then Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology and Sports, was the first politician to be arrested and charged by Icac.
Committal Court Magistrate Paul Puri Nii ruled today in Waigani that there was insufficient evidence provided to sustain the three charges.
“The three charges are dismissed and all bail monies be refunded back to Polye,” he ordered.
