Piraera, Lempira
In an immediate response to complaints from the community, agents of the National Police managed to capture two people linked to a violent event that occurred in the early hours of Monday, April 20, 2026 in the west of the country.
The operation was carried out by troops assigned to the Departmental Prevention Unit #13 (UDEP-13) in the Bellavista neighborhood, belonging to the municipality of Piraera and thanks to the leadership of the Departmental Chief of Lempira Commissioner Cristian Nolasco, who once again advised the DPI on the investigation, where he was assigned for several years.
The intervention occurred just minutes after authorities received the alert about a deadly attack in the area.
At the scene, the death of Mr. Luis Martínez Díaz, a victim of the criminal act, was confirmed, which mobilized security forces to secure the scene and track down those responsible.
Among those captured are a 35-year-old citizen, whose identity is kept confidential in accordance with the judicial process, and a 16-year-old minor, required as a minor offender. The two are brothers.
At the hearing for the accused’s statement, the father was sent to the prison of Gracias, Lempira and his son to the juvenile center in the El Carmen Village of San Pedro Sula.
Nolasco reported that the motive for the crime is personal enmities, those involved always fought when they were drinking and now everything escalated to homicide.
According to the official report, the two are supposedly responsible for the crime and criminal offense of homicide to the detriment of Martínez Díaz.
After securing the perimeter and carrying out preliminary investigations, the agents transferred the suspects to the city of Gracias, Lempira.
