The 13th meeting of the joint Turkmen-Austrian commission was held at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan. Representatives of Turkmen government agencies and business circles participated, as well as a delegation led by Elisabeth Weissenböck, Director of the Department of Foreign Economic Relations of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs, Energy, and Tourism. This was reported by the State News Agency of Turkmenistan.
The meeting’s agenda included issues related to the practical implementation of previously reached agreements, as well as the identification of new areas of bilateral cooperation for the future.
As noted during the meeting, Austria is one of Turkmenistan’s long-standing and important partners in Europe. The countries cooperate both bilaterally and multilaterally, including within the UN and the OSCE. The commission’s importance in expanding trade and economic cooperation was emphasized.
Participants discussed prospects for expanding business ties in a number of areas, including the implementation of innovative technologies in industry, energy, environmental projects and waste management, construction and transport infrastructure, the service sector, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, agriculture and agricultural processing.
Areas such as the green economy, digitalization and artificial intelligence, as well as the development of urban infrastructure, water treatment technologies and the banking sector, were identified as particularly promising.
The development of cultural dialogue was also noted—in particular, the traditional holding of Viennese balls and concerts by the Turkmen-Austrian Galkynyş Symphony Orchestra in Ashgabat has become a tradition. Developing contacts between scientific and educational institutions of the two countries was also named as a priority.
Following the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their mutual commitment to strengthening bilateral partnership across a wide range of areas. Within the framework of the commission’s work, bilateral talks were also held between representatives of ministries, agencies, and business circles from Turkmenistan and Austria.
