A seal is currently lying on the shoreline at Þórshöfn in the municipality of Langanesbyggð.
Líney Sigurðardóttir, a correspondent for Morgunblaðið, came across the seal yesterday while on a field trip with a group of elementary school children. She says the seal carefully watched her as she approached and observed it, but it did not try to get away, which is unusual.
“We were out on a field trip with our elementary school students when we suddenly saw a seal lying on the shore below the convenience store. The children unexpectedly got a biology lesson and learned, among other things, that a seal’s limbs are called flippers. I wouldn’t dare guess how old the seal is, but judging by its size, it could be young,” she says.
