The media spokesman for the Public Security Directorate said that the Cybercrime Unit warns of a new fraudulent method that it has dealt with over the past few days, as it received a number of complaints about video and audio communications received through various applications during which the callers claimed to be officers in the security services and were asked to provide them with personal documents and to report to the security services the next day.
The media spokesman confirmed that through the investigation of the information and complaints received, it was revealed that it is a fraudulent method through which the callers attempt to control the personal information and bank accounts of the victims by threatening them that there are cases against them and that they must review the security services after giving all the personal information to them, as investigations are still ongoing regarding the complaints and information received to identify those involved and take appropriate measures against them.
The media spokesman called on citizens to be careful when receiving unknown communications, and not to deal with anyone who calls via electronic applications and claims to be from the security services, as the security services do not resort to such methods in investigation or at the request of any person. He called on everyone to report them directly to the relevant authorities via the unified emergency phone 911 or through the communication channels via the electronic crimes unit or by reviewing the criminal investigation units within the nearest security center.
