Sar Sokha, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, on Tuesday officially launched the Cambodia Border Management System Version 2 (CBMS-2) and a suite of new digital functions, marking a major step forward in the country’s efforts to modernise border administration and enhance national security.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Sokha described the upgraded system as a significant achievement resulting from the collective efforts of the leadership and officials of the General Department of Immigration, implemented under the policy direction of Prime Minister Hun Manet since 2024.
The Interior Minister said the CBMS-2 system would provide a clearer and more comprehensive picture of border management operations, particularly at international checkpoints, while improving the monitoring of cross-border movements and strengthening the prevention, detection and suppression of various forms of crime.
He noted that the deployment of the second-generation system reflects the government’s commitment to administrative modernisation and national security enhancement through digital transformation, in line with the first phase of Cambodia’s Pentagonal Strategy.
Sokha emphasised that digital technology is one of the government’s five key development priorities—alongside human resources, roads, water and electricity—as Cambodia seeks to adapt to the Fourth Industrial Revolution and boost economic productivity in pursuit of its Vision 2050 goals.
To ensure the effective and secure operation of the new platform, he instructed relevant authorities to continue strengthening foreign-language and digital skills training for immigration officials. He also stressed the importance of safeguarding the system against cyber intrusions and unauthorised use of data.
In addition, Sokha called for closer integration of the platform with other ministries, institutions and private-sector stakeholders to improve efficiency and facilitate the delivery of public services to travellers, while maintaining a balance between robust security measures and professional, user-friendly service.
Sokha further urged continued investment in research and technological innovation to keep pace with emerging challenges and evolving technologies. He also highlighted the importance of expanding cooperation with international organisations, partner countries and relevant agencies to exchange expertise, technology and information in the fight against transnational crime and to strengthen border security.
